I have more than 20 years’ experience in the commercial magazine world as a writer and editor. I was features editor at Qantas magazine for five years before moving to the Hunter Valley in 2011, giving in to the constant nagging from my Hunter born-and-bred husband to move to “God’s country”. I’ve been freelancing since for a range of print media, including Qantas, Donna Hay magazine, Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide and SMH Good Food and Pub Food Guides, and also editing the Hunter Valley Magazine & Visitor Guide.
I’ve worked on a wide range of titles over the years, including Accor Traveller, Getaway Travel Magazine, House & Garden, AWW Cookbooks, Sydney Eats, Jetstar, Mode Brides, The Australian Worker and Family Circle to name some. Yep, I have a weakness for good food, wine and travel.
I’m a former editor and sports editor with more than 20 years’ experience in metropolitan tabloid newspapers, who branched out in recent years into wine and feature writing. I work on the Maitland Mercury full-time and write a weekly wine column for the Cumberland Newspaper Group. My work has appeared in Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine, WineState magazine, House & Garden magazine, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Sun-Herald, The Daily Mirror and London's Sunday Telegraph.
I’m a self-confessed sports tragic. I toured England with the Australian under-19 cricket side (way back when) and as a senior sports reporter covered 20 Test cricket matches, World Cup cricket finals and Wimbledon finals. I also played first-grade rugby league for Maitland and have done some radio work for 2GB, covering both interstate cricket and rugby league.
