Horner Wines: good wine with a fun side

You might not have heard of Horner Wines. It's a cellar door in the Hunter that's only been open a couple of years. It's a family run operation - husband Ash Horner is the winemaker with wife Lauren at the cellar door. Anyway, they're pushing boundaries with some unusual stuff - a glass of picpoul anyone? Not heard of it? It's a white wine variety from southern France and pretty rare in Australia, with just two vineyards. There's some less exotic stuff too, including a grenache shiraz mouvedre and a shiraz viognier that we loved. The cellar is a really welcoming set-up... and dog friendly too. Oh, and if you happen to get Ash talking wine, he'll chew your ear off. It's a fun spot to visit.
