HE SAID: I've been banging on for ages about how good Hunter chardonnays are becoming across the board. They just suffer because of the quality of the semillon if you ask me. This is a case in point. It's a beauty. Creamy, but nonethelesss light and bright, white peach, stone fruit, a little bit of flinty interest and plenty of fine acid on the finish. Classy wine and seriously enjoyable drinking. I'll say it again, it's a beauty.
SHE SAID: We tried this at Usher's new cellar door in an old church in the heart of Pokolbin, right next to another of our favourite producers, Gundog Estate (they're well worth a visit by the way). Love the heavy bottle and wax seal... no expense spared, even though it made me realise that I need to start doing weights. I'm hard to please with chardonnay - I just think there's so much middle-of-the-road stuff out there. This was different though. Top-end quality for sure... and, for a change, I agree with RA’s tasting notes. The Reserve Shiraz is also a cracker.
