HE SAID: Ahh, this was my first taste of the much-hyped Hunter 2014 semillons! If you're not aware, the Hunter wine people are over the moon at the quality of their 2014 vintage. This is designed for early drinking rather than cellaring, with bright fruit – zesty lemon and lime flavours – framed in crisp acidity. Lovely clean, fresh finish. If you're a fan of oysters, grab a tray and give this a try. It will shine. Hope they're all as tasty as this. SHE SAID: I’m a bit over the #insertwinevarietyhere day on social media, so when I bucked the #onlydrinkthiswinetoday trend and tweeted that while I acknowledged I was being parochial, I was really enjoying the new 2014 Hunter’s semillon from Gundog I loved owner/winemaker Matt Burton’s response. “That’s because every day is Semillon Day in the Hunter,” he tweeted. I agree wholeheartedly. Who wouldn’t want to drink a dry white wine with low alcohol (11.8%) and refreshing citrus flavours like Gundog’s every day? Okay, semillon does take you on a bit of an acid trip, but well worth a few visits to the dentist.
